Luristan Bronzo Pugnale (Senza Prezzo di Riserva)
A fine Luristan bronze cast dagger featuring a triangular blade that tapers to a point. The blade displays a prominent central midrib. The cylindrical hilt features two raise ridges for grip and terminates in a stepped, rounded pommel. A beautiful patina has developed and there are earthly encrustations to the surface. Signs of wear as consistent with its age, such as minor chips to the edges of the blade and some scratches to the surface.
Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, renowned in antiquity for its sophisticated metal working techniques. In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the Luristan bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Luristan bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
