A tobiguchi is a tool with an iron tip shaped like a black kite's beak attached to the end of a long handle.
It is used to move, transport, and stack logs and other timber, and to demolish and move wooden buildings (house pulling). In the Edo period, it was used in firefighting operations by town firefighters organized mainly by scaffolders, and when a fire broke out, the tobiguchi would be used to pull down surrounding buildings to prevent the fire from spreading (destructive firefighting).
