Rolex - Trench Watch - Senza Prezzo di Riserva - Unisex - 1901-1949
Vintage extremely rare solid silver Rolex trench-watch' wristwatch.
Sleek white enamel dial with black Roman hour markers and gold minute markers with red number 12. Very neat and original unrestored condition(minor chip under bezel at 2 position that has been repaired in the past) . During this period it was common for a trench watch Rolex wristwatch to have a 'blank' dial. This is because the watch was used purely for functionality, and not to show off.
A no reserve auction. The signed Rolex timepiece is in good original condition signed Rolex Swiss Made and under the dial signed Rebberg who made movements For Rolex Back in its early days . The timepiece runs with a clear tick and keeps time well, taking into account that the timepiece is antique. (60 sec per day).
The silver case is marked 925 this example dates from 1908 when Rolex was only 3 years old the case is marked with the Xi mark for Aegler who made the Rebberg movement for Rolex this mark is often seen in very early examples before Rolex started having their own cases made and stamped with the W&D mark for Wilsdorph & Davis ( Hans Wisdorph & his brother in law Arthur Davis started Rolex in 1905), hallmarked with a London import mark for 1908. All lids close well,
In 1913 Aegler who made Rebberg movements registered Rolex as a trademark for the manufacture of watches and watch parts. From this point on the history of Wilsdorf & Davis, Aegler and Rolex becomes virtually impossible to untangle from information publicly available, and the modern Rolex foundation never divulges any of its history.
At a General Assembly on 2 July 1921, the joint-stock company under the name of Aegler S. A. fabrique de montres Rolex (Aegler S. A., Rolex Watch Co.) (Aegler S. A. Uhrenfabrik Rolex), with registered office in Biel, appointed the following Board of Directors: Hans Wilsdorf, President; Hermann Aegler, vice-president; Emil Béha, secretary.
