Forma “issha-zukuri” del Kamidana 一社造り神棚 - Giappone - Periodo Shōwa (1926-1989)

This is the “issha-zukuri”(一社造り) form of the kamidana(神棚).

A kamidana is a place to express gratitude and make requests to the gods for the purpose of praying for family safety, business prosperity, and good health. Based on Shinto beliefs, it is often dedicated to Amaterasu or Ujigami, the deity of the shrine.

Main features:
Issha-zukuri: This represents a single shrine (a building dedicated to a deity) and is characterized by a single central door. It is designed to resemble a shrine and has a very simple and sacred atmosphere.
Wood and metal fittings: The wood is usually cypress or zelkova, which are considered sacred, and the metal fittings are decorated with ornate gold. The metal fittings are richly decorated with gold to express sanctity and prestige.
Roof: Like the shrine, the roof has a distinctive shape and is a faithful reproduction of a shaden (shrine building).

Points of Enshrinement:
Offerings: Five offerings of rice, sake, water, salt, etc. are made daily or periodically.
Location: The shrine should be placed high up in the house, usually suspended from the ceiling or fixed above a wall. Ideally, it should be enshrined facing south or east.
This kamidana is a simple, yet well-designed structure that is appropriate for a place of prayer, and is built in accordance with traditional Japanese beliefs.

This kamidana was made during the Showa period (1926-1989), and although there are scratches and damage in various areas due to age, they enhance the authentic, rustic appearance of the piece.
