You are bidding on a very fine and rare antique 4/4 violin, labeled Gio Bapt Grancino in Contrada Largha di Milano anno 1701. The instrument is in ready to play condition with no cracks, new rosewood set up, new bridge and new strings.
The violin has an excellent high to medium grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of softly flamed maple with matched sides, neck and scroll. The whole length of the violin is 592 mm and the back 360 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 172 mm; middle bouts: 110 mm; lower bouts: 208 mm. Full size. The sound of this instrument is of a charming character, rich and beautiful colors, depth and great carrying power.
