Seljuk Openwork Vase
Circa 12th century AD
This metalwork vase features an inverted piriform body, characterised by its elegant tapering form that widens at the shoulder and narrows toward the circular flat base. The prominent rounded shoulder is adorned with intricate openwork medallions, each depicting vegetal motifs. These pierced designs provide a striking decorative effect. The flat top leads to a circular opening, encircled by decorative registers.
The Seljuk Dynasty, a medieval Turkic empire spanning the 11th to 13th centuries, originated in Central Asia and expanded westward, notably securing Anatolia after the pivotal Battle of Manzikert in 1071. Governed by a centralized authority under a sultan, the Seljuks became patrons of Islamic art and culture, fostering advancements in literature, architecture, and the sciences. Renowned for military prowess, they significantly influenced the Middle East and Anatolia's geopolitical landscape.

Entgegen der Angabe, dass das Glas in sehr gutem Zustand sei, stellte ich nach Erhalt fest, dass das Objekt, stark restauriert ist. Der Verkäufer nahm das Glas zurück, aber die Enttäuschung bleibt!
