Print subject: Man wiping cold sweat after a terrifying nightmare. In that dream the man, who after a dissolute life had been disowned by his family, had a final sexual encounter with a prostitute he loved and then committed suicide together with her with a dagger. Now that he is awake, although still shaken, the man reinterprets the nightmare as a "false dream" of good omen and plans to get rich thanks to a lottery to obtain the money to redeem the prostitute he actually loves in real life.

Material: washi 和紙 Japanese paper

Technique: nishiki-e 錦絵 multi-coloured woodblock printing

Year: later edition of a work from 1823

Condition: overall good, partially trimmed margins - please look at the pictures

Dimensions: 14 x 21,5 cm
