Francesco Lazzaro Guardi (1712-1792) School of (XVII)

A late 18th Italian School capricci depiction of a Venetian landing point with gondola's and figures

Medium: Oil on panel

Period: 1780-1820 circa

Overall size with the frame is 60 cm x 50 cm x 7 cm and the painting measuring 42. cm x 32 cm

A wonderfully atmospheric and well detailed late XVIII to early XIX oil on panel Italian oil on wooden ( repaired) panel capricci depiction of a Venetian landing point with figures and gondola's from the school of Francesco Guardi. The painting is clearly inspired by Guardi's work and style .

Francesco Guardi was born in Venice, the son of a minor painter, Domenico Guardi

Francesco Guardi was (after Canaletto) the main painter of views of Venice in the 18th century. His early figurative paintings were carried out in association with his brother, Gian Antonio, but in about 1760 Guardi turned to view painting

The more 'impressionistic' approach of Guardi also found expression in small-scale imaginary scenes or capricci, of which there are many surviving examples, such as 'An Architectural Caprice'.

Condition report: We have described the painting as being in fair condition as although restoration work has been carried out the panel was in two sections and has had to be rejoined with associated retouching. You do not notice the join at normal viewing distance when hung . There are areas of retouching throughout the painting but generally well - blended .

Excellent painting, exactly as described by the seller. Much more beautiful in real than in the pictures. I expected some sort of expertise confirming what was claimed in the auction (not included).

Bester Kontakt vom Kauf bis zum Erhalt der gut beschriebenen Ware. Wieder fantastisch verpackt. Leider ist England nicht mehr EU-Mitglied. Bei den Versandkosten ist das deutlich zu spüren.
