Entgegen der Angabe, dass das Glas in sehr gutem Zustand sei, stellte ich nach Erhalt fest, dass das Objekt, stark restauriert ist. Der Verkäufer nahm das Glas zurück, aber die Enttäuschung bleibt!

Western Asiatic Bronze Whetstone Finial with Ibex Head
Circa 10th-8th century BC
This bronze whetstone finial, cast using the lost-wax process, depicts the detailed head, and neck of an ibex. The creature’s striking curved horns, adorned with raised bumps, sweep backward towards its neck. Its leaf-shaped ears extend sharply from the head, while the eyes are defined by prominent raised circular designs. The cylindrical socket to which the ibex is mounted flares slightly at the base and is accented by a pronounced collar. Two small circular holes near the socket’s end indicate its attachment to the whetstone.
Cf. The Carnegie Museum of Art, Accession No. 72.61.39.
Dimensions: 135mm x 60mm; weight 135g
Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old British collection formed in the 1990s.
