In the dissolution phase of the Beatles Lennon organized together with his second wife Yoko Ono from the late 1960s several public relations happenings (see Fluxus) for world peace and turned to artistically new areas. After the separation of the Beatles Lennon started a successful solo career with albums such as John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band (1970) and Imagine (1971).

Lennon was shot in 1980 by the evangelical assassin Mark David Chapman in New York
