Swainsson/Barraband/Donovan: 3 hand-coloured copper engravings from various works (1798-1820)


1. Yellow Tufted Honeysucker (Melliphaga auricomis). This hand-coloured copper engraving was part of Zoological Illustrations by William Swainson (Vol. 1 plate 43), Londen 1820.
The size of the plate is 23x14cm, it is sitting in a green passe-partout and the condition is immaculate.

2. Curunculated Chatterer (White Bellbird, Procnias alba). This handcoloured copper engraving by Jacques Barraband. This plate was shown in Histoire Naturelle d’une partie d’oiseaux nouveau et rare de l’Amerique en des Indes by Francois Vaillant (Paris, 1801) The plate here offered has English text and dates 1802. Unlike the 1801 plate, it is handcoloured. What particular work this plate originates from couldn’t be determined.
The size of the plate is 21x13cm, it is sitting in a white passe-partout and the condition is very good.

3. Mallard (Anas boschas). This engraving comes from The Natural History of British Birds Vol. 5 plate 124 by Edward Donovan (London, 1798).
The size of the plate is 24x15cm, it is sitting in a green passe-partout and the condition is very good.
