Andre Guerin Le Guay (1872-1945) - Impressionist seascape of a late summer sunset with sailing ships and figures.

Artist : Andre Guerin Le Guay (1872-1945) Title : A French post - impressionist seascape of a late summer sunset with sailing ships and figures. Date: Circa 1900 Overall size with the frame is 70 cm x 52 cm x 5 cm The painting itself measuring 40 cm x 24 cm x 2 cm A wonderful Museum quality post - impressionist study by the French genre painter Andre Guerin Le Guay whose work is comparatively rare to the art market . The painting depicts a seascape with ships and figures with the sun setting in late summer with sunset approaching as the sun settles towards the horizon. In our opinion the impasto and textural post - impressionist work is fabulous as are the soft pastel colours which the artist has sublimely blended. This is the finest work we've come across by the painter. Le Guay specialised in lake and sea views and fits well within the post-impressionist genre . The painting being offered is an excellent example of the painters work with lovely use of impasto and with excellent detail and perspective. A beautiful painting offered mounted within high quality late 19th century French frame with museum non - reflective glass and is ready to hang on the wall . Please note below with reference to frames. Condition report : In excellent original unlined condition for its age . We have had a very light clean done before it was fitted into a high quality period gilt 19th century frame .There are areas of craquelure throughout commensurate with its antiquity.
