A nice pair of square Yixing vases decorared with bright enamels. The vases depict a mirrored scene of magpies on prunus blossoms, poems and sprays of flowers.
Magpies are bringers of joy, often in the form of married bliss. They are usually depicted in pairs. When combined with plum blossom, as here, they can have sexual connotations, but can also mean 'happiness up to your eyebrows'.
Dimensions:
H16,5 x W6 cm
Condition:
One vase has a chip on the foot and mouth, also a baking flaw attached on the body. The other vase is in perfect condition.
