Roma antica Bronzo Piatto (Senza Prezzo di Riserva)
A fine Ancient Roman bronze dish featuring a circular shape and straight sides. The dish has a flat base, slightly raised in the middle, and shallow sides. The walls are topped by a thin lip of metal. The vessel is smooth and unworked and features an attractive dark patination with red and brown hues. Some wear and scratches as consistent with age.
During the Roman period, vessels were made in great quantity and manufactured in diverse materials, including glass, pottery, stone and metal. Metal-based vessels were usually manufactured from copper alloys, widely available in the ancient Mediterranean. The properties of bronze allowed vessels to be manufactured by either casting or hammering, thus enabling a relatively fast production.
Measurements: W 14cm x H 2.2cm
Provenance: Ex Collection of a deceased Japanese gentleman, collection acquired 1970-2010.
