Kawamichiya is a long-established store that sells fresh soba and soba HOURU (sweets) that has been around since the Edo period.
The ancestors of this shop originally moved to Heiankyo when Emperor Kanmu moved the capital to Heiankyo.
Around the Genroku era, he set up a shop in Kamiru, Ogawa-dori, Kamich?ja-cho, Kamigyo, and sold soba, a confectionery shop.
However, it is written in the family history that it was moved to its current location due to frequent fires.
