Very nice item, as described, well packaged. The shipping by PostNL took too long and was the usual unreliable mess in terms of communication.

16 loose issues of the illustrated French weekly satirical magazine L’Assiette au Beurre, comprising Nos. 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 19, 25, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 39, dating from April to December 1901. Each issue usually has 16 full-page and double-page illustrations in black and white and colour, with little or no text except for captions. Unlike similar magazines at that time, this publication rarely had advertisements, although here no. 5 does have a few pages, for magazines from the same publisher.
The lot includes the Kees Van Dongen issue, No. 30 of 26 October (which has a tear along the join of the spine and back cover but is otherwise very good). Issue No. 9 has the added 4-page supplement which includes an advertisement.
The cartoons and caricatures, which in general reflect anarchist, anti-authoritarian and social reformist leanings, are by some of the best known French illustrators and artists of the Belle Époque period: Paul Balluriau, Didier Dubucq, Adolphe Willette, Noël Dorville, Paul Jouve, Henri-Gabriel Ibels, Leal da Camara, Théophile Steinlen, Jehan Testevuide, Hermann Vogel, Pierre-Georges Jeanniot, Charles Léandre, Gustave-Henri Jossot, Gil Baer, Hermann-Paul, Fernand-Louis Gottlob, Jacques Villon, Charles Huard, Auguste Roubille, Leonetto Cappiello, as well as Kees Van Dongen and many others.
The covers of Nos. 12 and 34 are detached. Elsewhere there is staining, mainly to some of the covers, general darkening of the paper, closed tears, frayed edges to pages, chips, and spines are fragile. The interiors are complete and in generally good condition.
Size: 31.5 x 24.5 cm
