DESCRIPTION: Tea bowl with organge and white crackle hagi glaze. Excellent condition. 18th or 19th century. This Edo period Hagi chawan displays beautiful, finely crackled, earthy orange and white glaze, made from straw ash and feldspar, and drawing color from the iron in the clay body. The glaze is an earthy orange where it is thin and white where it is thicker and less effected by the iron in the clay body. This rounded wan-shaped bowl is expertly thrown it is covered with a fantastic mixed feldspar and ash glaze; it bears a raised seal. Exquisite Wabi-Sabi aura with inborn kiln cracks. The bowl comes with a storage wood box. Dimension: height 9 cm x dia. 13 cm Condition: very good original condition considering its age, normal slight traces of wear.
