Book design ; Katsuya Kato Masahisa Fukase and his wife, Yoko, began their new married life moving in to Matsubara-danchi residential complex of Soka, Saitama in 1964. they were soon joined by a Siamese cat named Kabo. A few years later Fukase brought home a black cat that he had picked up on the way home from fishing- a cat which he named Hebo. From then on the couple lived their day-to-day life with these two cats. This photo collection was made from the few remaining vintage prints from that time. The work is joined by another series of photos of a cat named Sasuke which Fukase had a special affection for. After Fukase and Yoko’s divorce in 1976, Fukase left the Matsubara complex for good. Yoko’s mother Kazuko Wanibe, who had been living with the couple at the time, continued to take care of Kabo and Hebo until the end." Fukase had published 3 books about "Sasuke", a cat he had after divorcing from Yoko; this book Wonderful Days introduces the cats that were part of the happier part of his life... Masahisa FUKASE was a Japanese photographer, celebrated for his work depicting his domestic life with his wife Yōko Wanibe and his regular visits to his parents' small-town photo studio in Hokkaido. He is best known for his book 'Karasu', shot between 1976-1982. Among his earliest bodies of artistic work is 'Kill the Pigs' of 1961, subsequently he experimented with various journalistic and artistic styles, contributing dozens of photo essays to such magazines as Camera Mainichi, Asahi Camera, and Asahi Journal.
