8 Damask linen napkins with initials A.S. I have seen many, many initials over all these years, but never these with rather simple, elegant ,and very striking effect. The letter A is very lightly hand embroidered to give the letter S. which is lying on top of the letter A. the depth and is double hand embroidered. It creates an unusual and very calm effect. The damask linen has been woven like " chess board" and each square is framed in satin weave. The linen is very soft to the touch. ( please look at 2nd photo.) These napkins would have been a marriage present and by the look of it have been left for most of their lives in the large trousseau armoire.
