Ludwig Hans Fischer (1848-1915) - Motive from the Island Roda by Cairo

Oil study with a motive from the island Roda by Cairo (due to the original artist´s memory inscription on the back of the panel) was executed in 1884 by famous Austrian landscape painter, orientalist and etcher Ludwig Hans Fischer (1848 Salzburg - 1915). He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Eduard von Lichtenfels in painting, under Louis Jacoby in engraving, and under William Unger in etching. Fischer completed his studies traveling in Italy, Spain, North Africa, Egypt, and India, and afterwards settled in Vienna. Besides a number of oil paintings, he executed for the Vienna Museum of Natural History nine decorative landscapes (1889). Among his series of etchings and engravings, the cycle “Historical Landscapes from Austria-Hungary” is his most remarkable production. He also painted many water-colors, and published "Die Technik der Aquarellmalerei" (7th ed. 1898). Inscription: signed, titled and dated by the artist in German on the back of the panel: " Insel Roda bei Cairo, L.H.Fischer, V.1884". Technique: oil on wood panel. Original period gold-plated frame. Measurements: unframed w 5 1/8" x h 8 3/4" (13 x 22 cm) ,framed w 11 5/8" x h 15 1/3" (29,5 x 39 cm). Condition: in good condition.
