Okada Beisanjin (1744 – 1820) was a Japanese notable bunjinga painter. Firstly he was a rice merchant in Osaka in the 1770s, from where his go name originated, Beisanjin, literally meaning a mountain of rice. He associated with the sophisticated aesthetes of Osaka's literati circles, which inspired him to cultivate his avocation of painting and Beisanjin employed a variety of styles in his paintings. His brusque and seemingly naive brushwork has a certain power that captures the vivacious spirit of Osaka, a flourishing center of commerce and finance. Famous Tanomura Chikuden (1777–1835) wrote for Okada's paintings that they "are not what one could call technically accomplished, but he made pictures that are like a sudden revelation of nature's meaning within the heart."
His works could be found in numerous museums worldwide including The Metropoliten museum, The British museum, Harvard Art Museum, ...
