Anthonie Palamedes (1601-1673), Attributed to - Merrymaking during the indoor concert

This wonderful 17th century dutch old master painting from the dutch golden age depicts an elegant company immersed in joyful celebration and merry making. The figures wear luxurious clothing which the artist perfectly captured, one can almost feel the softness of the shimmering silk of the lady's splendid gown. Anthonie Palamedesz (1601-1673) was a Dutch Golden Age painter known for his portraits and historical subjects. Born in Delft, Netherlands, he received early artistic training under Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt, which laid the foundation for his successful career. Palamedesz's portraiture skills were highly regarded during his time. He had a talent for capturing the personalities and features of his sitters with remarkable precision. His subjects ranged from members of the Dutch elite to scholars and notable individuals of the period. His portrait style was characterized by attention to detail, skillful use of light and shadow, and a rich palette, which added depth and realism to his paintings. Although not a religious artist, Palamedesz's historical subjects often featured scenes from the Dutch Golden Age, depicting the cultural and societal aspects of his time. His historical works provided valuable insights into the clothing, customs, and settings of the 17th century Netherlands. Today, Anthonie Palamedesz's portraits and historical paintings can be found in various museums and collections. The Rijksmuseum and Mauritshuis in the Netherlands house some of his notable works, allowing art enthusiasts to appreciate his contributions to Dutch portraiture and historical painting. Palamedesz's legacy endures as a testament to his skill in capturing the essence of his subjects and providing a glimpse into the Dutch Golden Age. Provenance: Private collection UK Northern German private collection Measurements: Oil on panel 42*52,5 cms (without frame) and 54*64,5 cms with frame (offered as gift) Good condition, faint panel joint-line visible in the upper third.
