Italian scriptorium of the Middle Ages - Noted Breviary 194 leaves illuminated on vellum Northern Italy 56 initials with burnished gold and colours - ca. 1460

Latin manuscript on parchment, 15th century, ca. 1460 A.D. Writing in dark brown and red ink, with 32 two-lines, 15 three-line, 7 four-line and 2 (1 figurative) five-line decorative initials in colors and gold.
Size of a leaf ca. 23,2 cm x 16,2 cm

Numerous Lombards in blue and red. 194 sheets, 14 to 28 lines, written space size approx. 14.5 x 12.5 cm.
Leaves 136- 159 and others with music notes.
Allover 71 leaves with initials in burnished gold and colours and other initials in red and blue. 123 leaves only with initials in red and blue (a lot of two-line-high).

Newer binding using the old mediaval binding material, the covers with four-sided and three-sided edge and corner fittings and star-shaped center pieces made of brass, clasps only present in fragments. (Signs of use and age, damaged) Size of the binding ca. 26 x 19cm.


Condition: Allover good or in reasonable condition, exept first 3 leaves with few wormholes in the lower area.
1 Calendar-leaf (March/April lacking) not complete, but I cannot say how much, I think not very much leaves.
Last 17 leaves with damage in the lower right corner, but nearly not affecting the text. Very few tears. But big part of the leaves clean, bright and in good fresh coloures and gold. Some rubbing, but the impression allover is good. The historaited initial with flacking in the blue backgrund. Some browning, most in the lower right corner, but often mor white.

Important for buyers outside the European Community: It needs several weeks to get an export licence and you have to pay the costs of about 200 Euros. Shipping is not possible before! There is no VAT on the price. This item is sold under margin scheme.
