This handcrafted ceramic piece by Inger Anne Sara Gaup (1942–2019) features a detailed depiction of a Sámi woman in traditional attire leading a tame reindeer. The central motif, measuring 75 x 75 mm, is intricately crafted with polished stones set in a hardened ceramic substance, all mounted on a brass base. The entire piece measures 165 x 165 x 16 mm. While unsigned, the artwork embodies Gaup's dedication to Sámi culture and artistry.

About the Artist:
Inger Anne Sara Gaup was a prominent Sámi figure from Masi, Kautokeino. She served as a representative for the Norwegian Sámi Association in the Sámi Parliament (1993–1997) and was known for her activism, notably the 1981 peaceful occupation of the Prime Minister's office advocating for Sámi rights. For this, she received an honorary award in 2005. In addition to her political work, Gaup expressed her cultural heritage through art, creating ceramic pieces that reflect the Sámi way of life.

Condition:
The artwork is in good condition with two small, visible cracks. Close-up pictures of these are attached to this listing.
The brass base has a natural patina consistent with its age, adding to its authenticity and charm.

Acquired from an antique store in Norway. Further research and consultation with the Sámi art community have attributed this piece to Inger Anne Sara Gaup.
