【Product details】

This "Ōtobide" (大飛出面) mask is a highly distinctive and dramatic Noh mask, known for its exaggerated, bulging eyes and wide-open mouth, often representing intense fury, madness, or supernatural forces. The face is adorned with a mixture of kindei (gold powder and lacquer), which highlights the divine power and authority of figures such as thunder gods. This careful blend of gold powder and lacquer is what gives the mask its rich and authoritative appearance, conveying a sense of awe-inspiring energy.

The mask is accompanied by a silk bag and comes in a paulownia wood box for safekeeping.

There are minor scuffs due to age, with one small scratch on the forehead. Please refer to the photos for detailed views of the condition.
