Rare Dutch Army Mobilization era commemorative medal of the Bakel cantonment. The medal was issued in 1939 to men of the 2nd Hussar Regiment and to men of the Corps Motorized Artillery (Korps Rijdende Artillery) KRA who were stationed there. This medal was made in honor of the 1939 mobilization of the 2nd Regiment of Hussars and the first and second Corps of the Horse Artillery in the Bakel Cantonment. On the obverse of the medal you see St. George fighting a dragon on horseback. The back contains two crossed cannons with a crown (the coat of arms of the Artillery) with the text: “II RH 1-2 KRA Kantonnement Bakel 1939”. The medal has a diameter of 40 mm, is made of bronze and struck by Koninklijke Begeer in Voorschoten. The medal was designed by Ed Cuypers. Bakel is a place in North Brabant. The Bakel section was part of the Peel Framework during the Mobilization 1939-1940. The medal was made in honor of the collaboration between the Horse Artillery Corps and the Cavalry.
