Byôbu 屏風 (összecsukható képernyő) - Lakkozott fa, Arany levél, Fém - Japán - Meiji period (1868-1912)
Special tall two-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) covered with shiny gold leaf with a faint square pattern and a nice aged appeal. A very rare feature of this screen is that the back-side is completely covered by oxidized silver leaf. Silver leaf continuously undergoes the process of oxidation, which creates a beautiful aged patina.
In Japan such tranquil and even screens are often used as a background for example vases with ikebana arrangements or other decorative or ceremonial objects.
Encased by a black lacquered frame with protective hardware engraved with scrolling foliage.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).
Dimensions:
Total width: 190.8 cm (2 x 95.4 cm); Height: 171.3 cm.
It is in very good condition with traces of age and restorations. Gold leaf restoration left panel, and some on both panels at the reverse. Please take a close look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
This room divider is very suitable to be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
