Vintage Royal Selangor “Sovereign” 3pc pewter tea service. Round baluster bodies are raised on spreading pedestal feet. The creamer and lidded sugar bowl have a squat form; the teapot has a panelled pear-shaped octagonal upper half and a domed ogee lid.
A new Sovereign set with a tray costs £1299.

Founded in 1885, Royal Selangor is the world’s largest pewter maker; every piece is meticulously hand-finished by experienced craftsmen.
Designed by Royal Selangor's first creative head Anders Quistgaard, “Sovereign” was unveiled in 1981, as a subtly modernised version of the Queen Anne style. In 1984, “Sovereign” won a Gold Medal in the Excellence in Quality & Design category at Germany’s Leipzig International Fair.
Anders Quistgaard (1944-2000) established Royal Selangor’s first dedicated design department in 1978, heading it from inception to 1987. Son of designer Jens Quistgaard (1919-2008), Anders was a creative polymath, introducing production innovations, and responsible for the design of some of Royal Selangor’s most iconic collections.

Teapot – 19 cm tall, 23.5 cm spout to handle, 12.5 cm across widest point
Sugar bowl – 9.5 cm tall to lid, 15 cm handle to handle, 10 cm across widest point
Milk jug / creamer – 5.5 cm tall, 12.5 cm spout to handle, 10 cm across widest point
Very good vintage condition, clean inside. Some scuffing appropriate to age and use; several small dings to the sugar bowl.
