A young girl can be seen standing in front of her flock in the lush and beautiful countryside. A small stream flows through the forest in the background. The present painting is both vibrant yet also peaceful and calming.
Edouard Van Esbroeck was a Belgian painter born on April 27th 1869 in the town of Londerzeel, he focused on portraits, religious works and genre depictions. The artist was a student of Godecharle at the academy in Brussels and won the Godecharle-prize in 1894. His works hang in the St. Mary's Church and the St. Servaas Church in Schaarbeek, as well as in the town hall in Londerzeel. Van Esbroeck was also a honorary citizen of this municipality.
Late 19th early 20th century. The measurements of the canvas are ca 35 by 48 cms and ca. 45 by 58 with the frame (offered as a gift). Signed lower right.
