A kamon (family crest) is a Japanese crest used to identify an individual or family. In Japan, there are 241 general classifications based on structural similarities (a crest may belong to multiple classifications), and 5,116 individual crests (although it is well known that there are lost or obscure crests that are not included in these classifications).

Even today, Japanese people often use their family crests on ceremonial kimono for weddings, funerals, and on tombstones.
