Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was an American painter of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent, known for his neo-expressionist works filled with cultural, social, and political references. He started as a graffiti artist in 1970s New York under the pseudonym SAMO, before establishing himself as one of the most influential artists of his generation. Basquiat stood out for his critique of racism, African American identity, and inequality, themes he expressed through a primitive and visceral style, using symbols, texts, and images that often incorporated historical and cultural figures.
As for his work Popeye Has No Pork in His Diet (1982), it is a painting that, like many of his other creations, mixes childhood imagery and cultural references with subversive messages. The use of Popeye, an iconic cartoon character, contrasts with the statement about his diet, which can be interpreted as an ironic commentary on popular culture and dietary stereotypes, especially in relation to racism or religious beliefs.
Jean-Michel Basquiat had a brief but significant relationship with Madonna in the early 1980s, before both became globally famous. At the time, Basquiat was already gaining notoriety in the art world, while Madonna was just beginning her music career. They met within New York’s nightlife scene, where both moved in creative and avant-garde circles.
One of the most well-known anecdotes about their relationship is that after they broke up, Basquiat demanded that Madonna return all the paintings he had given her, and he then painted them black. This gesture might reflect both the intense character of the artist and the personal complexities of his life and relationships. Despite the breakup, Madonna has spoken fondly of Basquiat, highlighting his exceptional talent and the influence he had on her life and her perception of art.

Fordítás megtekintéseDear Sir, Buying online always has some risks, that is why it is my policy that if the client is not happy for whatever reason, always can return the product in the first two weeks. You are right, this is not a litho, it is just an offset print (poster) of good quality, open edition of course. Maybe the word “Print” in English is misleading and has a wider meaning. Nevertheless, it is normal practice to contact the seller first and find a solution before writing a final opinion on the Buyer’s Review. I’m open to it. Best wishes.
I recived the parcel i will be home at month end to look at it but i am sure it will be fine Thank you
Fordítás megtekintéseitem in perfect condition, quick delivery
Fordítás megtekintéseDe poster is niet glad, zit hier en daar kreukels in. Jammer voor het geld verwachtte ik een gladgestreken poster
Fordítás megtekintéseI’m sorry for your disappointment. Print had mild imperfections as indicated, not interfering with image and not visible with proper framing. Over 20 years old print. Nevertheless, it is my policy that if the client is not happy, for whatever reason, can always return the print. Please let me know if that is the case. It is normal practice to contact the seller before complaining in the Buyer’s Review in order to explain the situation, we can always find a solution. Best regards.
