Stunning Caucasian Kuba or Seichur handmade wool rug mid to late 19th century measuring 190 x 165 cm ( 6.2 x 4.8 ft ). All over floral design in multicoloured field having geometric borders in antique colours background. Kuba, once a major rug weaving centre where some of the finest Caucasian rugs were made, is known for several different styles including typical Caucasian all-over patterns and the use of very attractive floral motifs stylised to the point of almost geometric in appearance. The carefully drawn flower bursts on the rug where identical one illustrated in two photos featured in the Carpet for home book by Amicia de Moubray and David Blank, are very dramatic and endlessly repeating. The leaf and twig border is also found in many Kuba rugs from the same age. The rug despite its age remained in good condition with one end Kelim still in tact and other trimmed with the stopper done. Pile is consistent and in good order just one small repair done at one corner which blended well with the rest of the rug. I do not believe these types would appear in open market so often so for those seeking a genuine antique Caucasian rug from the region this is a good opportunity.!?
