Old honjinkasa (jinkasa): with Tada's name

Jinkasa: A hat worn to protect the head as a substitute for a helmet. It is made of wood and paper and is lacquered.

Jinkasa is a hat worn by infantry and foot soldiers in the camp from the Muromachi period onwards. It was worn to protect the head as a substitute for a helmet.

Jinkasa were made of thin iron, leather, paper and other materials, and the surface was coated with lacquer. In later times, samurai wore lacquered hats with curled brim when going out, and over time they evolved into items incorporating artistic designs and materials that reflected status and rank.

In the Edo period, many of them were painted black lacquer with gold family crests, and were worn by the shogun and his retainers when going out.
