Miguel Rio Branco - Plaisir la douleur - 2005

Montages, collages, color and black-and-white photographs, and paintings from the 1960s, 1980s, and 1990s engage in dialogue with recent installations. The language of Rio Branco—visual artist, painter, photographer, filmmaker—defies any attempt to classify it within a specific domain.

The only guide in this "field of forces" is a critical gaze that confronts antinomies and creates associations leading to multiple interpretations. A gaze that floats between the cruel and the lyrical, rubbing beauty against itself and rearticulating the sublime and the abominable, pleasure and pain.
