About Yamanaka Lacquerware Yamanaka lacquerware, also known as Yamanaka-nuri, is crafted in the Yamanaka Onsen area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, located in the northwest region of Japan. It is renowned as one of the three major lacquerware centers in the prefecture, alongside Wajima-nuri (known for its lacquer) and Kanazawa-nuri (known for its maki-e). The region boasts the highest production volume of turned wooden items in Japan.
