Roman Imperial, Salonina (Wife of Gallienus). Augusta, A.D. 254-268. AR Antoninianus. Antioch mint. The obverse of the coin bears the inscription SALONINA AVG, which stands for "Salonina Augusta" (meaning empress). It features a diademed and draped bust of Salonina facing right, with her bust set on a crescent. The crescent was a common element used in antoniniani for empresses, symbolizing divinity or status.
On the reverse, the inscription reads PVDICITIA AVG, referring to Pudicitia, the Roman personification of modesty and chastity, virtues highly valued for women of the Roman imperial family. The imagery shows Pudicitia standing left, holding a scepter, representing these qualities of feminine virtue and imperial dignity. RIC V.1 65 (Joint reign).
