Friedrich Justin Bertuch-4 hand-coloures copperplate engravings from “Bilderbuch Zum Nutzen und Vergnugen Der Jugend” 1815
Friedrich Johann Justin Bertuch (1747-1822) was a German publisher and patron of the arts. He co-founded the Weimar Princely Free Drawing School with the painter Georg Melchior Kraus in 1776.
Between 1790 and 1830 Betruch printed the Bilderbuch für Kinder which appeared in 12 volumes. It was an educational work, appeared in monthly instalments and aimed to "spread the knowledge of the epochs out before children" with 1185 pages and 6000 illustrations.
The 4 plates herby offered originate from this work. Three of them have the original textpages in German, French, English and Italian.
The plates and textpages (22.5 x 18 cm) are in very good condition. Please look at the photo’s for more details.
The offered plates are:
Vögel LXXII, LXIII, LXXIV and LXXV (Birds 77,78,79 and 80) and were part of Vol. 5 of the series.
