Michael Joseph - Nivea now in tubs, head turned, sepia, original darkroom print
An authentic color print from the 1980s, elegantly mounted on an off-white mat, and signed by the photographer.
This photograph was born from a moment when my father captured the image of a naked woman seated on a bathtub for a Nivea campaign. The slogan, “Nivea now in tubs,” added a playful layer to the scene, a nod to the days when Nivea came in tubes — a clever play on words brought to life.
In a touch of humor, my father wrote “inspired by Man Ray,” drawing a parallel to the famed Violon d'Ingres. But it was a tongue-in-cheek comparison; the art director had chosen to position the model from behind not for the sake of art, but simply because, in his view, her knees were too knobbly!
This genuine darkroom print speaks to the dedication that went into capturing not just an image, but an idea — painstakingly developed to meet the vision of the art director and the whims of the client.
It will be wrapped with great care and swiftly sent via Colissimo.
