This first volume of The Strand Magazine was to play an important role in the writing life of Arthur Conan Doyle. Volume 1 contains a short story called 'The Voice of Silence' with illustrations by W.S. Stacey. This is not a Sherlock Holmes story, but Doyle's work with the Strand Magazine would develop from this short story into many more commissions between 1891 and 1930, including several Holme's stories in later volumes. Internally; the book is in good condition. No names or inscription. Pages are clean, with light foxing marks on some pages. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at the gutter.
