This ‘’Collo-Alto’’ fish cutlery, designed for Alessi in 2015 by the talented Inga Sempé, embodies elegance and functionality. The collection derives its name, "Collo alto" (Italian for 'long neck'), from the elongated and narrow shape of the segment connecting the handle to the active part of the cutlery. This design choice imparts a distinctive lightness to the cutlery, creating a visual play between curved and straight lines and harmoniously combining large and narrow volumes.

Inga Sempé's meticulous attention to functional details is evident in the ''Collo-Alto'' fish cutlery, characterized by a simple and rigorous style. The design journey of the entire cutlery set began with the creation of a risotto spoon in 2012, which served as the foundational inspiration for the subsequent pieces.
The genesis of the ‘’Collo-Alto’’ cutlery project can be traced back to a competition organized by "Domus" magazine, celebrating the anniversary of the iconic Cucchiaio d'Argento recipe book that has graced Italian kitchens for over fifty years. The cutlery set reflects and expands upon the original features of Inga Sempé's risotto spoon design, notably the juxtaposition of curved and straight lines.

One striking aspect of the ‘’Collo-Alto’’ cutlery is the subtle yet distinctive detail of the narrow border between the handle and the end of each piece a nuanced change in volume that enhances the overall design. This particular feature, while visually captivating, poses a production challenge, showcasing the designer's commitment to both aesthetic excellence and practical feasibility. In essence, the ‘’Collo-Alto’’ fish cutlery stands as a testament to Inga Sempé's ability to blend form and function seamlessly, creating a timeless and sophisticated addition to the world of cutlery design.

‘’“Collo-alto” is the name chosen for this collection characterized by a long and narrow neck transitioning from the handle to the ‘heads’ of the cutlery. The thinness imparts a sense of lightness to cutlery, which are made by contrasting straight and curved lines as well as by combining wide and narrow volumes.’’

About the designer:
Born in Paris, France. Graduated of Les Ateliers-ENSCI in Paris, in 1993. Has started her own studio in 2000. She works with LucePlan, Ligne Roset, Cappellini, Edra, Moustache, Wäsrberg, Gärsnäs. She lives and works in Paris assisted by two employees.
