Golden Earring -most successful rock group in the history of Dutch pop music. For more than four decades, the Golden Earring was the most important representative of Dutch rock music. In the 1960s they spearheaded the thriving beat scene in their hometown of The Hague. The '70s was a decade in which the band became an internationally successful rock act. In the former Polydor big shot Fred Haayen they find themselves as shrewd advisers and producers. Over the years, The Golden Earring have developed their own energetic rock sound that has enjoyed success both domestically and internationally. In the '90s, the band had one of their biggest commercial successes with the acoustic album The Naked Truth. In addition to their own careers with Golden Earring, both George Kooymans and Barry Hay have also spearheaded the careers of new musical talent such as Bojoura, Earth&Fire and more recently Anouk. – Switch Following the success of Moontan, Golden Earring could easily have catapulted its success to international fame by continuing to play up that album's commercial elements. Instead, the group did a U-turn, pursuing non-commercial song themes and emphasizing the prog-rock side of their sound (this move included the addition of Dutch prog-rock keyboardist Robert Jan Stips, formerly Supersister, to the line-up). The band even mocked their latest hit album's sexy cover with a similar cover that replaced the gorgeous showgirl on Moontan with a puppet. The result is an album that lacks the consistent sound and coherence of Moontan but makes up for it with an adventurous spirit and plenty of instrumental firepower The disc might also appeal to adventurous fans of prog and hard rock.
