Középkori Arany Szív alakú medál gránáttal
A fine Medieval pendant featuring a heart-shaped garnet set in a gold bezel. The bottom of the pendant features a gold disc attached to the main part by two rows of granules. The gold-leaf base of the pendant behind the garnet, is similarly framed by a granulated trail. Gold wire has been coiled to form a triple suspension loop at the top of the pendant. The reverse remains unworked. Some minor scratches to the gemstone as consistent with its age.
Golden jewellery was highly popular in Medieval times, worn by both men and women. It was not only a means to display wealth and social status, reflecting an intensely hierarchical and status-conscious society, but was also exchanged as tokens of love, or to ward-off misfortune. Royalty and the nobility wore gold, silver and precious gems, while lower ranks of society wore cheaper base metals, such as copper or pewter.
