Heavy solid katsura wooden Go-game table 碁盤 (goban) complete with go-stones 碁石 (go-ishi. Because the top of the gaming table is made of solid wood, it has a beautiful continuous grain. Raised by faceted baluster feet varnished in a darker hue.
Katsura, also known by its botanical name Cercidiphyllum japonicum, is a hardwood species native to Japan, China, and Korea. Katsura has a pleasant scent similar to burnt sugar or caramel, making it an ideal species for aromatic woodworking projects. It is also highly rot-resistant.

The boxes are made of indigenous mulberry wood 桑 (kuwa) in a dark brown hue. The white ones are made from the bivalve shell hamaguri 蛤 cockles, and the black ones are from Nachiguroishi, it is a fine type of slate from Kumano in the province of Mie.
The table is in a good condition with general traces of use on the play field, and restorations along the side and bottom side. A few of the go-stones have minimal traces of usage, which is quite common. Some glass additions of the stones. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
