Qur'an - Herat - Timurid - AD1460. This manuscript bi-folio, is from a Koran scribed shortly after Shah Rukh’s reign at a time of great political turmoil. It was relatively small for ease of carriage, thus was most likely for private use. Sadly the Qur'an had been badly damaged with most of the manuscript beyond repair. We have done what we can to rescue some of the Holy scripture.
The bi-folio is from the Meccan Chapter 42, Ash-Shura (Consultation), V25-42, whihc talks about conducting affairs by mutual consultation as one of the qualities of true believers. Believers are commanded to resort to God's judgement if disagreement arises.
Each leaf contains 14 lines of evenly spaced and elegant Naskhi script in black ink and in an educated calligraphic hand. Multiple free-hand 'aya' in a simple gold spiral mark out the many verses on both leaves. The right folio has a single marginals (Juz), the left two (2), with Gold marking the 25th and 35th verse endings and blue the 20th. Diacritical advisory script marks in red providing the reader with devotional guidance. The folios are each fully framed in gold and blue lines.
There is devotional use staining bottom left through page turning, but otherwise this is a good clean copy and very well preserved for its age dating from around the time of the fall of Constantinople to Islam in 1453.
Each leaf is 15.5x11cm as seen from the reverse (image 12g).

My item arrived extremely quickly - many thanks for the excellent service.
Fordítás megtekintésePièce was exactly as described and delivered very quickly
Fordítás megtekintéseWas very satisfied until I found out that the manuscripts are held to the mount by adhesive tape impossible to remove without damaging the manuscripts. Who the hell puts tape on old manuscripts?!
Fordítás megtekintéseWe do show the mounting in the photographs that are provided for the auction. The tape we use is acid-free mounting tape and placed on the outer margins of the manuscripts on the reverse side.
Carefully packed, arrived in best condition
