First published in Latin and Italian in 1601; translation into Italian by Father Carlo Sassetti (1566-?), also a Jesuit. De Backer gives two Venice editions, 1602 and 1608, but does not mention the present one. The Jesuit Nicolò Pimenta was born in Santarem (Portugal) and entered the Society of Jesus in 1562. He taught the humanities and theology in Evora and in Coimbre, where he was also rector of Coimbre; in 1596 he was sent as Visitor to the Eastern Indies, and governed the provinces of Goa and Malabar. He died in Goa. Tn this work the author also includes copies of letters by fellow Jesuits: Francesco Fernando, Simone Sà, Francesco Rossi.
