Several first printing points are present:
The final 'i' to page viii is misaligned.
"Screwed" instead of "Screamed" on page 132, line 20.
Chapter XXVII is at page 282 rather than 283 as listed to the contents.
Lack of quotes on page 285, lines 7 & 8.
Misspelling of "Coroboration" to page 387, six lines from the bottom.
Dark plate facing page 482.
First edition in book form; 8vo; 40 illustrations by Hablot K. Browne ('Phiz'), including frontispiece and vignette title page (earlier state with date), without publisher's ads at end, foxing and browning primarily to plates (as usual); bound in half-green Morocco with marble boards and edges, spine divided in six compartments with gilt raised bands, gilt lettering to compartments two and three.
The outer hinges are sound and solid, marble boards are scuffed, and a tad darkened, minor marks to the leather, some bottom edge wear, overall in very good condition.
Armorial bookplate of Arthur Symmons to front pastedown, bright inside with foxing and offsetting, primarily to plates and the adjacent pages to various degrees. All plates present, strain at the gutter pages 622-623, otherwise tightly bound, overall a very good copy, please refer to the pictures as they form part of the description.
Dickens would write in his preface to the 1869 edition of David Copperfield, that: 'Of all my books, I like this the best. It will be easily believed that I am a fond parent to every child of my fancy, and that no one can ever love that family as dearly as I love them. But, like many fond parents, I have in my heart of hearts a favourite child. And his name is David Copperfield'.
