First edition and printing of this wonderfully illustrated book, with 68 colour plates and folding map
A delightful first edition (Limited Edition of 3000 copies) exploration of southern islands. Set into three parts: the first part covering British New Guinea, the second part the Solomon Islands, and the third the New Hebrides.
The book is beautifully and colourfully illustrated with fold out map in colour at rear, and 68 captioned tissue-guarded fine colour plates by painter Norman Heywood Hardy. With descriptions written by E. Way Elkington.
Published by Adam and Charles Black, London, 1907. Publisher’s original light blue cloth boards, lettered in gold with war club adornments on upper cover and spine. Top page edges gilt.
Book Dimensions: 23 x 16 x 4 cm and Number of Pages: 211 including index + 4 pages of Publisher’s books.
Condition
External covers are slightly faded and marked, with light wear to corners, and minor rubbing to head and foot of spine. Internally the book is in good condition. A small name with neat ink on first front free endpaper page. Foxing and spotting marks to free endpapers pages, and to the margin of pages through. The attractive illustrations make this a truly beautiful title (Please see pictures).
