Table de jeu de go 碁盤 (goban) avec pierres de go 碁石 (go-ishi) - Bois massif, Laque, Coquillage, Ardoise, Mûrier - Japon - Vers 1900 (période Meiji)
A heavy solid wooden Go-game table 碁盤 (goban) with a partial glossy black lacquer 蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi) finish, paired with a complete set of go-stones 碁石 (go-ishi). The two opposide sides of the board and four faceted baluster feet are coated in lacquer, while the exposed wood boasts an appealing aged patina.
Accompanied by go-stones stored in lidded containers crafted from indigenous dark brown mulberry wood 桑 (kuwa) with interiors coated in red lacquer. The white go-stones are made from the bivalve shell hamaguri 蛤 cockles, and the black stones are fashioned from Nachiguroishi, a fine slate sourced from Kumano in the Mie province. The containers are housed in their own tomobako 供箱 (storage box).
