Beautiful German porcelain inkwell with stand and shaker dating to the Victorian period. Kidney-shaped tray with a moulded egg-and-dart border that is richly gilded; a scrolling gold frieze band runs along the interior rim and the back of the stand. The interior of the tray is hand-painted with a lovely floral bouquet in vivid polychrome enamelling of pink, blue and violet shades. The set contains two pots – one for the ink and a sand shaker; the pots have domed reeded covers with floral knop handles. The inkstand also has an internal well with two openings where pens can be placed. Beautiful and lively piece that can be used as a vide poche for jewellery on a dressing table.
