Rare - Antique Large 19th Century Zhisha Yixing Teapot Chinese Czech W. Schiller & Sons Czech, ca. 1840-1860 The pot is displayed at page 137 of ‘Yixing teapots of Europe” from Valfre & Shi. See last added pictures. Refined design. Made in the 19th c. A Fantastic and quality object. Very hard to find. Similar Teapots are found in the Victoria & Albert museum and Rijksmuseum. Teapot and cover of red earthenware, not made in stoneware but in orange terracotta shard, with moulded and impressed decoration covered with a dull red glaze in order to resemble Yixing stoneware. Hexagonal body moulded on each side with a dragon, the remaining surfaces being impressed with rosettes and other devices. The hexagonal spout issues from a monster's head. On the flat cover is a figure of a lion, and over the top is a scrolled handle with two dragons heads in the middle. We think this is not a Chinese version but a very rare Czech Schiller & Gerbing Yixing Teapot. Made after Wilhelm Schiller started his own factory. Marked: WS&S 2 Prior to running his own factory, Wilhelm Leberecht Schiller (born 1797) was in partnership from 1829 with Friedrich Vincent Meinulph Gerbing (b.1798) as Schiller & Gerbing, in a pottery in Bodenbach / Tetschen.
